Hong Kong Dedicated Servers: Plans, Routes and Support

Note. Plan specifications, prices and stock change. The plans below are the ones listed on our Hong Kong dedicated servers page when this article was last checked. Some are out of stock or unavailable, so check the live page before you order.

Hong Kong dedicated servers

Our Hong Kong dedicated servers are hosted in Equinix and Telehouse HK data centres. Each plan has a 1 Gbps port, 15 TB or 40 TB of bandwidth depending on the plan, a dedicated IPv4 address, and IPMI remote management. Free setup applies to all listed plans.

Plans listed on the product page

CPU RAM Storage Bandwidth Monthly price
Intel Xeon E3-1245 v2, 4 cores 16 GB DDR3 2 x 150 GB SSD 15 TB $147.95 (out of stock)
Intel Xeon E3-1270 v3, 4 cores 16 GB DDR3 2 x 1 TB HDD 15 TB $177.95 (unavailable)
Intel Xeon E3-1230 v3, 4 cores 32 GB DDR3 1 TB SSD 15 TB $217.95
Intel Xeon E5-2670, 8 cores 32 GB DDR3 2 x 2 TB HDD 15 TB $237.95

Higher configurations, including multi-socket Xeon and Gold servers with 40 TB bandwidth, are on the product page.

Who it suits

  • Businesses serving users in Hong Kong and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
  • Applications that need a dedicated server rather than a shared or virtual one.

Routes and performance

The product page lists a 1 Gbps port and CN2 routing for China-facing traffic. Network routes depend on your users’ providers and location, so test latency from your own users’ networks before you rely on any route.

Test the network before you order

Latency depends on the path between your users’ providers and the data centre, so measure it from where your users are. From a computer or server in the target region, run:

ping -c 20 SERVER_OR_TEST_IP
mtr -rwc 50 SERVER_OR_TEST_IP

ping shows the round-trip time; mtr shows each hop and where delay or packet loss starts. Ask @CustomerPanel for a test IP address in Hong Kong before you order, and test at busy times of day as well as quiet ones.

Choosing a configuration

Workload What to prioritise
Websites and online stores SSD or NVMe storage, enough RAM for the database and caching
Game servers and real-time apps CPU clock speed and network latency to your players
Backups and file storage Large HDD capacity and bandwidth allowance
Applications serving mainland China Routing to Chinese networks; test from your users’ providers

A dedicated server gives you the whole machine, with no other customers on it. If your workload is small or changes often, a Cloud VPS can be more flexible, because you can resize it.

How much bandwidth do you need?

The listed plans include 15 TB or 40 TB of monthly transfer on a 1 Gbps port. Estimate your use from your current server’s statistics: the average page or file size multiplied by monthly requests. Downloads, video and backups to other locations use the most. If you are close to the limit, choose the larger allowance or ask about a custom plan.

Setting up the server

  1. Use IPMI to reach the console and install or reinstall the operating system if needed.
  2. Update the system, create a non-root user, and set up SSH keys.
  3. Turn on a firewall and allow only the ports you use.
  4. Set up backups to storage outside the server.
  5. Install a control panel if you want one. See our free control panels guide.

Rules that apply

Servers in Hong Kong follow Hong Kong law and our Acceptable Use Policy. Read both before you order, especially if you plan to serve users in mainland China, where separate rules apply to websites hosted inside China.

Support and management

IPMI remote management is included on the listed plans. For a managed setup, see our server management plans. Our SLA is 99.9% uptime. Read the Service Level Agreement for the terms.

See the Hong Kong dedicated servers page for current plans and stock, or talk to @CustomerPanel about a custom configuration.
