Removing MySQL deletes their databases, and MySQL 8 data files cannot be opened by MariaDB. The safe way is:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"margin:0 0 24px;padding-left:22px;\">\n<li style=\"margin:0 0 8px;\">Order a new server and install cPanel with MariaDB, using Option 1.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin:0 0 8px;\">Use <strong>WHM &gt; Transfers &gt; Transfer Tool<\/strong> to copy the accounts. The databases are exported and imported as SQL, which works between MySQL and MariaDB.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin:0 0 8px;\">Test the sites on the new server, then change DNS.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin:0 0 8px;\">Keep the old server until everything has run cleanly for a few days.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 18px;\">If you would rather not run two servers, keep MySQL. A move that saves nothing but risks data is not worth it.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"upgrading-mariadb-or-mysql-later\" style=\"color:#0D1F3C;font-size:28px;line-height:1.25;margin:34px 0 14px;scroll-margin-top:90px;\"><i class=\"fas fa-database\" style=\"color:#00D4FF;\"><\/i> Upgrading MariaDB or MySQL later<\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 18px;\">Upgrades within the same family are supported in WHM. Before you upgrade:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style:none;padding-left:0;\">\n<li style=\"margin:0 0 8px;\">\u2713 Take a full backup of every database, and check that it restores.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin:0 0 8px;\">\u2713 Read the release notes for the new version, especially changes to SQL modes and removed features.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin:0 0 8px;\">\u2713 Check that your applications support the new version.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin:0 0 8px;\">\u2713 Run the upgrade in <strong>WHM &gt; SQL Services &gt; MySQL\/MariaDB Upgrade<\/strong> during a quiet period.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 18px;\">Upgrades are one-way. You cannot go back to an older version without restoring from a backup.
